Piece of Cake
Saturday afternoon Johnathon and I stopped by XO Coffee Company. It was busy, and the beverage selection was interesting. Have you ever heard of a frozen vanilla cupcake? It’s an actual drink they serve at XO. If you’re interested, it’s on the kids menu. I’m still curious to try it out. Anyway, Johnathon and I order a chemex and a slice of cake to share. Birthday flavor. Side note, isn’t birthday flavor just plain vanilla with sprinkles on top?
Back to the story. Johnathon and I decide to head out. We had finished our coffee but left almost the whole slice of cake on the table. A guy came up to us and asked if we were done with our cake, we told him we were. Then we got our stuff and headed out. As we’re walking outside, the guy who had asked us if we were done ran passed us. Holding the piece of cake, and eating it meanwhile he was running. Icing was dripping on the sidewalk. Johnathon and I just looked at each other.
Is he homeless? On drugs? Maybe he’s just hungry. Seriously, I have never had an experience like that before. It was an odd moment. Afterward, Johnathon and I just joked about it. Ultimately, it was an experience we won’t forget.
