I want to preface with it’s not for everyone. It’s ok that you don’t want to go. You aren’t missing out, especially if it’s not your scene. The media plays it out to be the best night of your life. Honey, if that’s the case, you need to go out more. Side note: high school or college shouldn’t be the best years of your life. Yes, college is fun, but strive for every day to be better than the day before.
Now let’s get to prom. The stress of being asked, what to wear, and are you getting a limo? Girl, don’t stress it. Trust me. It’s one night. It’s ok if no one asks you. Go with your friends. When it comes to your dress and shoes ask yourself these questions:
- What’s your style?
- What makes you feel comfortable?
- Do you actually think you’ll want to wear that outfit all night?
- How much are you comfortable with spending? Again, it’s only one night.
Since prom night, I have not worn my dress. I’ve worn my shoes a couple of times, but honestly, I should have spent less. In high school I didn’t work, but my grandparents and parents bought me everything I wanted/needed for prom. I spent $60 on a dress and I can’t remember how much my shoes were. I think the ticket for prom was $75. My cousin did my makeup and hair, and my parents dropped me off and picked me up from my prom night. We went to IHOP afterwords.
Is that lame? Maybe for someone who expects a crazy drunk filled night. I, however, wasn’t into that. It’s ok to just want to have a good time, dress up, dance with your friends, and eat mediocre food. You don’t have to conform to what prom is expected to be like. Be safe, don’t waste too much money, and enjoy yourself. It’s going to be crowded, it might be sticky and sweaty, and beware of peer pressure. In any form that peer pressure takes.
I got to dance with my friends & eat tacos. We danced and sang our hearts out to Selena Gomez, and we took too many pictures. I had a good time, but it isn’t the huge night Hollywood makes it out to be. If you prefer to stay in and watch movies, or go bowling, or just do homework — you do you boo. Half of prom was a blur, because it was just a bunch of teenagers pretending to be too cool, but still so posh. Did I mention our prom theme was “under the sea” aka little mermaid. “Thanks for the memories” (F.O.B. reference).
Here is a link of a couple of stores that have cute prom dresses:
