Why is education my escape?
Easy answer. It’s all that I know. Academia and all it’s beauty. My experience as a U student was magical. I swear, the atmosphere is different. A town that is dedicated to learning, discovering, discussion, eating chipotle, sleeping at the library and heading to the gym. Not everyone feels this way about going off to a university. I’m sure every college has a different vibe to it, but the only one I have experienced is UNT. Go green or go home, am I right?
Let’s dig a bit deeper. Besides the fact that the world of academia is my comfort zone, what else draws me to pursue a post-graduate degree?
Here is a list of my why’s and why not’s:
- NOT: to earn “more money”. C’mon. Creative writing major.
- Greater knowledge.
- The workshops
- To learn
- I want to challenge myself
- Connect with other writers
- NOT: for status
I find relief in sitting at a desk listening to my professor explain why author X is an exemplary writer. Discussing my craft with others who also want to discuss theirs is empowering. Learning that you aren’t the only one who struggles describing a persons features, because “she had long brown hair and hazel eyes” is a simple no.
I miss it.
