Tesla Test Drive
Yep. We did it. Johnathon and I headed to the Tesla store front at West Legacy in Plano. The shops at West Legacy include a Sprinkles cupcake shop. So, of course, we had to stop and grab a cupcake. I got the seasonal S’mores cupcake, and Johnman ended up getting a cupcake sundae. I’m pretty sure he got a salted caramel cupcake with vanilla ice cream. If you know me, you know I suck at eating. I don’t know why but I will always manage to use 50 napkins, drop/spill my food, and leave with sticky fingers.
After our cupcake adventure, we headed towards the Tesla store. We were about 10 minutes early, so of course, we were totally down to just hang around until then. The employees quickly greeted us and told us the guy who would take us on the test drive would be there shortly. 5 minutes later, we were walking towards the Model S, and being educated on all things Tesla and the car specifics.
Guess who got to drive the car? This girl.
I bet Johnathon was scared for his life. I kept repeating, “I drive like an old lady”. That was a semi-lie. I really enjoy driving fast, but just like anything, a new car has a learning curve, and I had to learn with two other people watching my every move. Kinda sounds like I was learning to walk. The insane part was that the car was so smooth. You turn the car on, and you can’t hear anything. Literally. No noise. If I was to drive the car by myself though, without someone to walk me through it, I might not have been able to do it. I also don’t have the best memory. I think I would need my own mentor for a couple of days.
The autopilot experience was mind-blowing. I was a bit uncomfortable not driving myself, but I could see myself getting used to it. Especially during long drives. At the end of the experience, we got down to talking a little bit about the financial aspect of the cars. Man, it’s so expensive. I was mentally prepared for anything between 30-50k. However, the most inexpensive car was around 68k. Do I think it’s worth it? Yes. Can I currently afford it? Eh, debatable. In the future, I really want to be able to drive a fully electric car. If you have the opportunity to test drive a Tesla, I would suggest going for it.
